1. 볼빨간 사춘기 (bol-bbal-gan sa-choon-gi) / Red ... Cheek ... Puberty?
Summer is hectic and things are just GOING. What better way to slow the world down than with the tuneses. This duo isn't new to Korea or to me, but I've been listening to them a lot this summer particularly. I have NO clue how to romanize their name. It translates directly to "Red Cheeked Puberty" but I've also seen it written as Bolbbalgan4/Bolppalgan Puberty/Blushing Youth. They're worth the effort to look up. My top 3 song recommendations:
좋다고 말해 / jo-ta-go mal-hey / Tell Me You Love Me
우주를 줄게 / woo-joo-leul jool-kae / I'll Give You the Universe
2. Them Sandals
They are a pain in the ass to put on, and the soles are essentially paper, but it's been a long time since I've loved a pair of shoes this much. On more than one occasion I had strangers look at my feet, tell me they love my shoes, then ask if I made them. Evidently these shoes scream "I am a 30-year-old adult who spends her spare time pasting pom-poms to footwear!". Regardless, I accepted the back-handed compliments with an open heart!
3. Ruffle top, high-waist, elastic band denim shorts
Because fashion these days, amirite? I don't know if it's the 'mom jeans' butt that it gives me or the simple fact that they're long enough to cover the front pocket fabric (you know what I mean, right), but these shorts have been my jaaaaaam this summer.
4. Oil blotting sheets
The summer gets hot and Korea gets particularly moist. These babies are compact and raised a couple eyebrows while we were in Canada ... I guess the concept is kinda gross. But I'm not sorry. It gets the job done.
5. NOT dark roast, basic coffee
Am I the only one who was dumb and thought that dark roast coffee is more caffeinated? I generally like my coffee to taste strong but I found out that the darker the roast, the less the caffeine, and I am not here for that.
